On Fire Together

“They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem… and found the Eleven gathered together.” – Luke 24:33

The Emmaus story does not end with two burning hearts on a road.

It moves toward gathering.

When hearts are awakened to Christ and strengthened in companionship, they naturally seek others who share the same fire.

Faith that begins personally becomes shared. Encouragement multiplies. Joy deepens.

On Fire Together is the third movement of Walking Emmaus: burning hearts gathering in shared life.

This is where disciples realise they are not alone.
Where testimony strengthens courage and conviction.
Where prayer is dependent and hopeful.
Where faith overflows and infects others.
Where grace and love can be seen.

The fire spreads — not by pressure, but by presence.

Community becomes warm — a place where faith is strengthened and joy shared.

Being on fire together

Communities are renewed when people come into with hearts on fire. How can I contribute to being part of a community that is on fire together?

  • Being faithful in prayer and attendance. It may not seem like much but just our presence and faithful commitment is an encouragement to others in our community. Pray for your leaders, for those who lead and serve, for those who are struggling, for those who are new.

  • Showing genuine care and interest. Asking people how they are going and if there are things you can pray for them. Following up on conversations and prayer requests

  • Sharing ourselves, being an encourager. Be prepared to be open, honest and vulnerable. We don’t always have to be upbeat or on top of things. Share what God is doing on your life both in the good times and the tough times.

  • Looking for practical ways to serve. We have spiritual gifts that have been given to serve others and support their growth in maturity. Exploring and looking to use my spiritual gifts is part of helping my community to be on fire together. It doesn’t have to be big. Do small things with great love. Sometimes a small word about what we appreciate in someone else can be powerful.

  • Looking out for people on the edges. A community on fire is one that cares particularly for the poor and marginalised. Hospitality can be a way of caring for people on the margins. Get to know and welcoming people outside formal times together. Invite them for a meal or go out for coffee.
