Kindling the Fire

Encountering Jesus in a way that stirs the heart

Every journey of renewal begins with encounter.

In the Emmaus story, hearts are awakened not by a programme, but by the presence of the risen Christ. As Jesus walks with the disciples, listens to their story, and opens the Scriptures, something begins to stir. What was cold and confused starts to warm again.

Kindling the Fire names the first movement of Walking Emmaus: becoming attentive to Christ’s presence and allowing our hearts to be reawakened.

A fire already there

For many people, the fire is not absent — just low. Hidden beneath busyness, disappointment, or routine. Kindling the fire is not about forcing an experience, but about noticing and tending what God is already doing.

This movement invites space for:

  • attentive prayer

  • Scripture that connects God’s story with ours

  • silence and reflection

  • honesty about questions, doubts, and longing

Here, discipleship begins not with action, but with presence.

Walking with Christ

Jesus does not rush the disciples. He walks with them. He listens. He opens Scripture in a way that brings clarity and hope. Walking Emmaus invites us into the same posture — learning to walk attentively with Christ in the ordinary moments of life.

From spark to flame

A kindled fire needs tending. Awakening leads naturally into companionship and encouragement.
